Family Life
| Born in Erie, Pennsylvania, Mark was the third of four children born to Larry and Sheila Bula. When Mark was 13, his father, a tool-and-die maker who often worked a second job to support his family, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Through his parent’s influence and his need to help offset family expenses Mark learned the value of hard, honest work and the strength of family. Now married, Mark and his wife, Megan, look forward to instilling those same values in their two young children, Kathleen and Timothy, as they grow up in Northwest Ohio. |

Public Service
Mark has long been active in each community in which he has lived. Now that he has set roots in the City of Sylvania, he continues that involvement, particularly concerning the development of youth. A former high school volleyball coach, since moving to Sylvania, he has coached both Junior Olympics and the Sylvania St. Joseph’s CYO volleyball. He is also a Big Brother through Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Northwest Ohio.
Leadership
Mark has always had a penchant for leadership. As a student at Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he served as Vice-President and President of his student government, was the founding President of the university’s Lambda Sigma National Honor Society and received many honors through the university’s Greek system, including Greek Man of the Year. Athletically, Mark was Captain of the men’s Division I volleyball team. Upon graduation, he was honored as the sole recipient of “The Outstanding Undergraduate Leadership Award.” Among his many current pursuits, Mark is a Board member of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Northwest Ohio and sits on the Executive Committee of Aspiring Minds of Toledo.
Politics
Politics played an important role in Mark’s life early-on. His father was a staunch Democrat and his mother a staunch Republican. Through their lively exchanges of ideas, Mark grew to be politically aware and independent-minded. Still a young man, Mark gained his first significant hands-on political experience working on the 1982 Congressional campaign of Tom Ridge, who would later become the two-term Governor of Pennsylvania and the nation’s first Secretary of Homeland Security. Most recently, Mark played a vital role working in the Presidential election process in Northwest Ohio. He believes in term limits - both for party control and that they prevent policy from becoming stagnant and public servants from becoming ineffective. Deeply disappointed with the polarizing rhetoric of both major political parties, he recognizes that Northwest Ohio needs new voices as well as fresh and positive ideas and solutions. Mark has an undeniable passion for people, believes in limited government and the power of the individual, and is committed to bettering our community and serving its people.
